Travis Monczko

Head of Legal Operations

Expertise: Software development | Legal process improvement | Document automation

Travis is one of the creators of Cadence, the software platform making legal work more efficient at ConMoto Group and at other in-house teams. He also leads the legal document automation team, drawing from his experience as a commercial lawyer.

Travis started ConMoto Group with Gerry Connolly in 2019 with the belief that commercial legal services could be drastically improved, especially with the help of improved processes and custom technology tools. Before deciding to focus on software development full-time, Travis was a lawyer in both a top-tier and mid-size law firm, specialising in commercial contracting, particularly in the construction industry.

Drawing upon his experience as a lawyer, Travis divides his time between leading the software development team behind Cadence and the legal document automation team who produce automated contracts for ConMoto Group and its clients. He is our translator – he understands the inefficiencies encountered by our lawyers and clients and turns these into requirements to implemented by our developers.

Travis is particularly motivated by the belief that focussing on knowledge capture and investing in systems & technology is not only worthwhile for delivering better outcomes for clients, but also for creating a better work environment for lawyers.

Travis’ experience includes:

  • Creating Cadence, ConMoto Group’s web application for efficiently obtaining legal support, including creating, signing and storing contracts. Travis has helped design each of Cadence’s three core modules: Create, Sign and Store & Track.
  • Managing a growing in-house software development team and ensuring we adhere to the highest quality standards not only when developing new features and supporting clients, but also in relation to security, data integrity and privacy.
  • Preparing all kinds of custom automated contracts including for procurement (goods, services and works), employment (employment contracts and variations), property (leases, amendments and renewals) and business structuring (shareholders’ agreements).
  • Working with in-house legal teams to help develop their legal templates and to roll out document automation across the businesses they work with.
  • Working with IT teams at client organisations through their SaaS vendor due-diligence processes and with setting up Cadence for their business, including SSO and user/team permissions.
  • Designing a new method of legal document automation using modern software development tools and practices rather than the unmaintainable ‘pseudo-code’ in Word documents approach.
  • Way too much knowledge about every dark corner and crevice of Microsoft Word.
  • A lot of (then) interesting legal matters (including building a runway, a supermarket, several disputes over dredges and ports and recovering a family’s life savings from a dodgy accountant…) that aren’t particularly relevant anymore!
